What does every1 think about international students?
I'm really interested in studying Mechanical Engineering with Management at the University of Manchester, and of course, although I've been to Manc'r, all I've seen about the university is what's on the prospectus...
I hear that there is a kind of animosity to international students from Africa (I'm from South Africa) in the UK...what's the honest opinion and are there any tips or things I don't know which I need to know.
Thank you...

RE: What does every1 think about international students?
Hey, in my experience there is no animosity or any sort of hard feeling towards international students, and I went to Essex, which has the second highest proportion of international students in the UK.
Sometimes people say international students seem less outgoing, or tend to mix only with people from similar countries or cultures. Though as long as your willing to meet new people from all sorts of cultures it shouldn't be a problems.
Many unis also have a strong international community and have clubs and societies for students from different backgrounds, designed to help international students have a better time at uni.
My only advice is be out going and talk to as many people as possible regardless of their country or culture. Also cooking some food from your home country and sharing it with friends/flatmates often goes down well. People have cooked some very tasty things for me in the past

I live pretty near manchester and a friend of mine went to uni there. As far as she's concerned, she doesnt know of any animosity towards international students. Just be open minded and im sure you'll be fine!

I don't think you will have a problem - people in the UK are used to people from all over the world in our great land :-)
