RE: Useful student resources
http://www.ousu.org/main/campaigns/targe...interviews
As part of OUSU (Oxford University Students' Union) campaigns, this little set of pages has been put together to give prospective students an idea of how interviews might go. There's a section on most of the subjects offered by Oxford each containing at least one report of a current student's interview experience. Some of the articles are not all that interesting, though it's good to see some info on the web about how students feel after the interview.
Admittedly this probably won't be all that useful if you're not applying to Oxford, but you might find some of the information useful for apply to other universities for the same subjects.

RE: Useful student resources
http://www.uniapps.co.uk
Though the visual design of this website leaves a lot to be desired there's lots of useful content on the subject of applying to university. The site covers the main topics such as choosing a course, choosing a university, the personal statement and university interviews and also a few other areas such as gap years, tuition fees and a few fresher issues.
The site generally covers similar material to Studential but in less detail, but there's lots extra stuff as well so it's well worth a visit. If you're already at uni there's not really much to help you out, just a couple of fresher guides.
Apart from the slightly poor design, the site is easy to navigate, and the content is simple to understand. It doesn't look like there's going to be much future development though, as the site seems to be designed to promote a book, and the content shown is just extracts, though what's online isn't bad for free.

RE: Useful student resources
http://www.oxbridge-admissions.org.uk
Anyone applying to one of the Colleges at Oxford or Cambridge might want to have a look at Oxbridge Admissions. The site mainly consists of a large database of students who applied to these two institutions and how they got on. You can sort applications by subject or college and get answers to questions such as “What questions were you asked during your interview” and “What advice do you have for potential applicants”. The profiles cover pretty much every important part of applying, including details about the applicants’ school and grades, why they applied to that uni and college, exams and interviews and general thoughts about the college and their application. There’s also the option to email some of the applicants – so you can ask them any questions you think got missed.
The site also used to contain general information on applying to Oxbridge and other advice, though this section is currently being rewritten and should return soon. Overall it’s a great resource for getting the views of ordinary applicants, though some more information would be nice.

Tutor2U presentations
http://www.tutor2u.net/highered/
Tutor2U normally specialised in guides for social sciences students, though they seem to have branched out this year and produced a few presentations for those applying to university. They’ve created three online slide presentations – applying to university, the personal statement, and applying to Oxbridge along with a special PDF guide for those applying for economics.
The presentations themselves are full of useful nuggets of information, but are still a bit useless on their own – they’ve been designed for teachers to use as classrooms aids, and so won’t be so good for individual students with no one to explain and clarify the points as you go along. They look pretty useful for schools though, so you might want to suggest them to whoever is in change of university applications in your school or college.
The Tutor2U forums are also pretty useful for information on economics and social science applications, particularly for Oxbridge, so have a browse around those as well at http://www.tutor2u.net/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=5.

Yumyum.com Student's section
http://www.yumyum.com/student/
Before buying a student cookbook you might want to check out this short guide at Yumyum.com. It’s almost a complete book in electronic form with sections on cooking methods, utensils, guides on meat/fish and lots of easy recipes.
The site is American, so there could be a few metric conversions, and the web is not the ideal place to keep your cookbooks, though it’s definitely not bad for free. There are plenty of sites offering recipes, but fairly few aimed at students, so this is a good site to get you started without spending any money.

HomesForStudents
http://www.homesforstudents.co.uk/
HomesForStudents is one of the many student accommodation sites on the web, offering to pair students up with landlords for free. The main difference is it actually seems to have some properties available – over 1000 at last count. The idea is pretty simple: you go to the site, select your university or city, and the details about the sort of property you’re looking for and it will give you information about all the houses and landlords available. Selecting an individual property gives you loads of details about room sizes and facilities available – and also crucially tells you whether you’re signing a joint tenancy agreement or not – something I haven’t seen on student accommodation sites before.
There’s not much else on the site to help students though, just a very sparsely populated forum and not guides or advice on living in private accommodation. Overall though, it does exactly what it says, and if the landlord and property database is kept up to date it could prove a useful service.
When looking for private accommodation you’ll also want to check out your university’s accommodation office: many run a similar service for the local area and are likely to have a lot more properties than sites on the internet.

RE: Useful student resources
http://www.studentguidebook.co.uk/
Studentguidebook.co.uk i a small site created to promote the book, called unsurprisingly enough, The Student Book, by Klaus Boehm and Jenny Lees-Spalding. But unlike may promotional sites, there is a lot of freely available useful content. There's sections on choosing a university and course, advice on the applications process, information about finances and a comprehensive A to Z of student life.
The site design is bare and boring, and the navigation is difficult to use, though there is a lot of information on there, and if you look hard enough you can find everything from university drop out rates to budgeting advice.
Obviously there isn't quite as much information as you would find if you bought the book, though the site provides a pretty good introduction, and points to the resources and organizations you need to find more.

RE: Useful student resources
http://www.availablehouse.com
Student accommodation is listed from all over the world. Its a great resource to students all over the UK and the world. The advertisers on the website are either private owners or agents. The beauty of it is that students can chat to the advertisers themselves, the website charges no commission or any other charges to students.

RE: Useful student resources
http://www.target-10000.org
T10k is an organisation designed to help people apply to university by running events at universities across the UK - The aim is to help 10000 students by running 10 different events at 10 different universities for 1000 students each.
There's no need to worry if you're not one of the lucky 10,000 though, they've also got quite a bit of advice on their website - including 8 freely available personal statements. There's also advice on the application process, how to perform well during interviews and a small bank of interview questions which may well be useful.
I imagine the workshops they run are pretty useful too - if anyone's been on one let us know how it went and whether you found it useful.
