Average Student Age
Can someone tell me what the average uni student age is? Im gettin really paranoid that 20 is to old to start, I no that anyone of any age can go, but it seems to me that the older you get, the less fun its gonna be.

RE: Average Student Age
Don't worry about it mate - I'm 24 and I'm going to uni in September, and I know loads of people who've gone to uni later than 18. Your ability to have fun doesn't depend on your age! I feel I'm better prepared to go now than I would have been had I gone at 18 - I've got some job experience and money behind me, and after a few years of going on holiday and buying what I want I won't mind being a bit broke at uni for a while. If its what you want to do don't worry about how old you are, just go and enjoy yourself!

RE: Average Student Age
I can't see it being a problem, lots of people go on gap years or do something else so 20 isn't really a lot older than most people going to uni.
I've also heard that older students or those who have taken a gap year are often a lot more mature than those who've gone straight at 18, and are more likely to enjoy the experiance.
And as everyone says - uni is what you make it, if you want to enjoy yourself i'm sure you will!

RE: Average Student Age
Theyll be plenty of people your age! I think lots of universities have a mature students officer who is in charge of making sure older students feel welcome and make sure theres lots for them to do though your not much older than most students at 20.

RE: Average Student Age
Well, to be honest, myself, including a lot of my friends arn't going until next year, when we will all near enough be 20-21 (and ther are around 9 of us!)... So i duno, i think a lot of people nowadays just want to travel and make some money before going to university-which means they'd be older.
Don't worry about it.
We'll all be fine! Just think about it this way... You'll have more stories of the past to tell people!

RE: Average Student Age
i went last year at 18 and i was known as one of the babies! alot of people are around 20 in their first year because of gap years/dropping out of the fisrt uni course they chose/failing etc. im sure you'll fit right in.

RE: Average Student Age
hey go onto ucas.com and they have a table showing all UK universities and the ages of people that go and the number of people in each age category- dunno if my explanation makes sense but check it out and you'll know what i mean! im going to be starting next sept at 20 too and had the same issue- went to uni at 18 and dropped out and definately feel being 18 was the disadvantage for me personally.

I am 23, hold an HND in Business Studies and currently in the 2nd year of BSc Computing! I will probably do a postgraduate course after that. Possibly I shall still be doing another degree when I am 30!
